The Journey Home Book

At the age of only nineteen, Radhanath Swami left his home in America seeking adventure and spiritual knowledge. After trekking across Europe for months, Swami Radhanath reached his long hoped for destination: India. After living there for many years as a sadhu or wandering monk, Radhanath returned to America in order to share the sacred knowledge and wisdom he had learned from the many holy men and women he had met there. It was an extraordinary choice, given what Radhanath had survived to get there: a journey filled with bizarre characters, mystical experiences, and dangerous adventures. The story is recounted in his recently published memoir The Journey Home - Autobiography of an American Swami. Reviewers have called Radhanath's saga  "at once an engaging yarn, a love story, and the evocation of a transcendent paradise in all its savagery, solitude, and splendor.

Radhanath Swami emerged from his years of travel wanting to explain for others the beauty and rewards of a life devoted to God, and therein lay a dilemma. Radhanath Swami's many followers and friends describe him as completely selfless and consequently unwilling to take credit for his work and restless when a spotlight is focused on him. By choosing A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami (1896-1977), a Bengali Vaishnava Saint, as his guru (after declining offers of initiation from several tyagis or renunciants in the Himalayas), Radhanath Swami cast his fate to the wind, cut his matted locks, and entered back into the society.

RadhanathMaharaj.net gives us a complete collection of the teaching of Radhanath Swami. Teachings consists of Transcriptions of lectures delivered by Radhanath Swami at various places. This website is to inspire the followers of Radhanath Swami to practice the philosophy of Vaishanavism.

Seeing everything in relation to Krsna BY Radhanath Swami

yatredam vyajyate visvam
visvasminn avabhati yat
tat tvam brahma param jyotir
akasam iva vistritam

My dear Lord, the impersonal Brahman spreads everywhere, like the sunshine or the sky. And that impersonal Brahman, which spreads throughout the universe and in which the entire universe is manifested, is You.

PURPORT
In Vedic literature it is said that everything is Brahman and nothing else. The whole cosmic manifestation rests on the Brahman effulgence. The impersonalists, however, cannot understand how such a huge cosmic manifestation can rest on a person. Thus this inconceivable power of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is not understood by the impersonalists; therefore they are puzzled and always denying that the Absolute Truth is a person. This wrong impression is cleared by Lord Siva himself, who says that the impersonal Brahman, which is spread all over the universe, is nothing but the Supreme Lord Himself. Here it is clearly said that the Lord is spread everywhere, just like the sunshine, by virtue of His Brahman feature.

This example is very easy to understand. All the planetary systems are resting upon the sunshine, yet the sunshine and the source of sunshine are aloof from the planetary manifestations. Similarly, the sky or air is spread everywhere; air is within a pot, but it also touches filthy places and sanctified places alike. In any case, the sky is uncontaminated. The sunshine also touches filthy places and sanctified places, and both are actually produced by the sun, but in any case the sun is aloof from all filthy things. Similarly, the Lord exists everywhere. There are pious things and impious things, but in the sastras the pious things are described as the front of the Supreme Lord, whereas impious things are described as the back of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. In Bhagavad-gita (9.4) the Lord clearly says:
maya tatam idam sarvam
jagad avyakta-murtina
mat-sthani sarva-bhutani
na caham teshv avasthitah
"By Me, in My unmanifested form, this entire universe is pervaded. All beings are in Me, but I am not in them."
This verse of Bhagavad-gita explains that the Lord is spread everywhere by virtue of His Brahman feature. Everything rests in Him, yet He is not there. The conclusion is that without bhakti-yoga, without rendering devotional service to the Lord, even an impersonalist cannot understand the brahma-tattva, the Brahman feature. In the Vedanta-sutra it is stated: athato brahma jijnasa. This means that Brahman, Paramatma or Parabrahman should be understood. In Srimad-Bhagavatam also the Absolute Truth is described as the one without a second, but He is realized in three features -- impersonal Brahman, localized Paramatma and the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The Supreme Personality of Godhead is the ultimate issue, and in this verse Lord Siva confirms that ultimately the Absolute Truth is a person. He clearly says: tat tvam brahma param jyotir akasam iva vistritam. Here is a common example: a successful businessman may have many factories and offices, and everything rests on his order. If someone says that the entire business rests on such-and-such a person, it does not mean that the person is bearing all the factories and offices on his head. Rather, it is understood that by his brain or his energetic expansion, the business is running without interruption. Similarly, it is the brain and energy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead that carry on the complete manifestation of the material and spiritual worlds. The philosophy of monism, explained here very clearly, adjusts itself to the fact that the supreme source of all energy is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna. This is described very clearly. It is also stated how the impersonal feature of Krishna can be understood:
raso 'ham apsu kaunteya
prabhasmi sasi-suryayoh
pranavah sarva-vedeshu
sabdah khe paurusham nrishu
"O son of Kunti [Arjuna], I am the taste of water, the light of the sun and moon, the syllable om in the Vedic mantras; I am the sound in ether and ability in man." (Bg. 7.8)
In this way Krishna can be understood as the mystic power in everything.

Maharaj’s class
We r reading from SB 4.24.60
was the king of the world. He was a great descendent of Prthu Maharaj. Pari prthu. Dhruv maharaj .
Although his devotion to god was mixed with desires for fruitive activities
He wanted to give the best possible culture to his children. Culture means spiritual. If we look at the world today the foundation of practically all cultures is spiritual. In fact when a atheistic vision wants to conquere they know through that conwuering that to have some permanance they have to some how or other destroy the culture. Just like in china , when communist took over, any spiritual work or artifacts r destroyed. Erased form history. If they are there then anybody happens to take some interest in them then they r going to get attracted because they r substance they r many. Its tradition. similarly.in the former soviet union so much destruction of all sence of religious culture that was not presented according to the interpretation of atheistic ideas . It has to be otherwise people come back. Because religion spirituality is so its makes so much sense its so logical and it gives such a deep experience. Recently, our Srinathji pr was telling he has been to Iran and there is a culture of the Parsis or the Zoroastrians and when the Islamic conquered they practically destroyed and erased from the face of the whole trace of that. Because there was culture there was philosophy. And they wanted to establish their own. In Afghanistan during the regime of the Taliban’s there was that very big controversy that bombing the world famous historic religious statues of the religious images because they were different from their conception of religion. So religious culture is the basis of human civilization. America, people went there to get religious freedom that’s all. All Europeans went there because they wanted religious freedom. They were minorities. They were being persecuted. That’s the basis of their culture and godly trust. When I was a little boy it was a rule, by the government as far as I know because in every school through out the entire land we don’t have classes until we pledge religions to the flag. I pledge the religions to the flag of USA, one day individual undo God. So because the name god was in that. Later on they all got it from the school. That’s the basis of whole civilization that we are all one children under one supreme god. Art, music, architecture, landscape whether its in the east or the west the most beautiful of all manifestations throughout the world is religious its spiritual. How many people go to see some sky scraper building? And feel inner enrichment . But all over the world they going to cathedrals and the museums which is mostly religious art –Micheal angelo, devotion rafeal all these artists most their work even rambant as spiritual modification of God . now as far as popular music there is Jazz music and rock and roll music and what is it ? beatles or something. These things come and go . in 500 or 600 years no one cares for that music but they told them the handal the masaiah . these are classical pieces millions of people listen to millions and millions years later. Its considered the finest western music. The genius says it is glorification of God., it was written for the church and the ragas of India the classical ragas they are all composed ages back to enlighten the peoples consciousness enrich it with spiritual devotion to the supreme . Culture has its foundation in devotion in service and faith in god. So King Prthunivarisha he wanted his children to have culture not just be radical but experience so what did he o. he made a beautiful magnificent palace. He sent his 10 sons, the pota to go into the worldliness to perform tapasya and penance chanting the holy mantras for the purpose of getting spiritual realization. And by their sincerity we find that they follow the instructions of the great souls they came to a beautiful lake they offered their prayers performed their devotional worship and in reciprocation Lord Shiva‘s magnificent divine form appeared right before their eyes. Vaishnava naam yatha shambho. Lord Shiva wants them to achieve the highest perfection. Now there’s such a difference. We see in the scriptures many materialistic persons have worshipped Lord Shiva for material benedictions. Just like there is Vrkasura he was cutting off his flesh and putting in fire chanting Om name Shivaya . Chanting the names and mantras to lord Shiva. Lord Shiva, who is a compassionate pure hearted soul like to c people cutting off their flesh and offering unto him. Would u like someone to do that for you? Hare Krishna. On your birthday someone cuts off a chunk of their flesh and wraps it off and gives it to you, sayings please accept this as my love. What kind of devotion is that? But this person is doing this is tamoguna. Krishna explains in Gita everything is catagorised according to the 3 modes of material nature. Our worship, our Nature, our charity, our very outlook of the world. So in the mode of passion he was worshipping because Lord shiva specially is the predominant deity of the Tamoguna. So many people of that disposition worship him. But Lord Shiva is beyond the modes of material nature. He is a transcendental divine personality. He is the expansion of the Supreme Lord Himself. So, ultimately, so many pieces of Flesh and finally he was about to cut off his head. Lord Shiva said , enough is enough, here I am. What do you want? He said “Whoever head I touch it should crack in 1000’s of places” That’s very wonderful Lord Shiva. Envious person, violent person still he gave him that. So be it. When he attacked Shiva , we know the story. Lord Vishnu intervened disguised as a young boy and asked, what you are doing”, he said because I want Parvati as my wife. In order to get her I have to kill Shiva and I have the benediction how to do so.
Aa you are doing like this. Actually Lord Shiva’s benediction sometimes they work sometimes they don’t. You touch His head nothing will happen and everyone will laugh at you. It will be a disgrace. Better to test yourself first. Touch your own head. He did and it worked.
We were discussing yesterday how Kamsa was worshipping Lord Shiva . Lord Shiva is Gopieshwar Mahadev. He is eternally meditating on Krsna’s lila . Absorbed in the highest Samadhi of fixed concentration in the Rasa Lila of Vrindavan. That is Gopeshwar Mahadev.
I remember I was living with Shivites in Himalayas and when I came to Vrindavan , the temple I was living in there was Lord Shiva sitting lotus posture right near a Tulsi . and I asked can you explain. They said yes in Vrindavan Lord Shiva is meditating. Not on himself. He is meditating on Krishna’s rasalila. Therefore he is Gopeshwar Mahadev. So inVrindavan Shiva is performing tapasya to enter the Rasalila just so that he can get that divine association of Krsna and Sri Radhika. He is mediatting eternally on rasalila in Vrindavan, and just to cross over the river in Mathura, Kamsa is doing elaborate pujas & sacrifices to Lord Shiva to give him the power to kill Krishna Prabhupada said this is the dilemma.During In World War II , he said the allied forces, USA, UK , the wives of soldiers were going to the churches to pray please let us win the war and send our husbands back alive. And in germany and italy, the wives of soldiers were going to the churches to pray please let us win the war and send our husbands back alive.
Prabhupada explained it is the same God. It’s a confusing situation. They are praying for opposite things. So in this way people, who approach God for material benedictions, Krishna explains those who approach demigods for material benedictions ,they are less intelligent. Because material benedictions are temporary, they never satisfied our heart. Nanda Maharaj and Yashoda Mai they worshipped the deity of Nandeshwar Mahadev to get Krishna as their son. To get Lord as their son. They are worshipping Shiva to protect Krishna. And Kamsa is worshipping Shiva to kill Krishna. And there you can understand who Shiva likes better by the result. You can judge a thing by its result. Kamsa was killed and Krishna enjoyed very nicely by killing him. That was benediction actually. So we find in scriptures so many people desiring so many benedictions from Shankar. Some want mistic powers. Ravana also got tremendous powers from Lord Shiva. Because Ravana was a devotee, out of respect after killing Ravana Lord Ramachandra actually performed puja to lord Shiva at Rameshwaram. Very holy place. Lord is worshipping “His devotee. Why? Out of love. Lord loves his devotee, but also the Brahmins advised Him that He gave a benediction to this man and you killed his devotee therefore you should offer honor him.
But here the they are innocent, they are simple, they are sincere they are not asking anything for their own egoistic purpose. They are simply surrendering to Lord Shiva. And Therefore Lord Shiva is about to tell them what is the greatest thing. What is most dear to His heart? What is the ultimate aspiration, what is the ultimate goal, he is going to teach them how to achieve that. And that is what this chapter of SB is about. He is teaching them how to meditate on this beautiful form of Lord Vishnu. He is teaching them the practice the pure unalloyed devotion words Lord Vishnu. In previous verses, he is revealing his own heart, how he is longing for and praying for the association of the devotees of lord Vishnu. And in the particular verse today he is explaining, the relationship between all pervading omnipresent Brahman and Supreme Personality of Godhead. Lord Shiva is called Mukti Mahan, because he gives mukti. Some worship him for material power and some worship him for liberation. But the supreme liberation is elevation to the transcendental abode of the Lord which is in one’s own heart that one can realize through pure unalloyed Love. That is the benediction Shiva is giving. So here he is explaining that the impersonal Brahman, He is none other than You, Krishna. This is how you should pray Pruchetas that the all pervading impersonal Brahaman , you are the source, it is you.
Brahmana hi prati “
In BG Krishna says that I am the all pervading Brahman .
Parameti paramatmeti iti
That the absolute truth to realize is in 3 features Brahman, Paramatman and Bhagavan. Different aspect of the one Supreme spiritual truth. The Brahma Samhita declares that the Brahman is the effulgence, the rays that emanate form the body of the Supreme Lord. And they are all pervading and everything that exists is withing those rays. It is the Lords spiritual energy. The example is given of a sun. Everything within the entire universe, is sustained by the sunshine, nothing can exist without the sunshine. The sunshine is reaching all parts of the universe. At the same time the sunshine is the form of that formless light. Therefore when you see the sunshine in relation to the sun then you understand that u see the form of sun in the sunshine. Because you understand the relationship. Similarly one who has higher spiritual understanding they see Krishna in everything. That is the nature of love.
We were describing last night that a devotee asked Srila Prabhupada that how practically can a devotee see Krishna everywhere. Srila Prabhupada explained that when you actually start developing love for Krishna the you feel pains of separation from Kirshna. Love is cultivated most affectively through feelings of separation. That is how Acharyas they offer their prayers in humility and separation. rarely do we find our acharya saying I danced with Krishna last night. Everyone should know, Oh, I am so fallen where are you oh daughter of Vrishabhanu, o son of Nanda Maharaj. Will you ever show your mercy upon me? Your humble servant Narottam is pleading with tears longing for your mercy. This is the way Lord CM taught to cultivate feelings of separation, consciousness, then we actually become sincere in this [path, then naturally we see Krishna everywhere due to that awakening of that love.
Just like a ladies lover is in a distant land for a long time, if she sees his comb she sees him in the comb, because for her this is the property of her beloved so she sees her beloved. She picks up that comb and hold it to her heart, she will weep, she will cry. Now from a point of view of a completely external perception she is crazy. Comb is just a piece of plastic. It probably cost just Rs. 2 why she is holding at her heart. why is she holding it to her heart and weeping and crying because for her that is not a piece of plastic she is seeing this is the property of her beloved so she sees her beloved. She is feeling the presence of her beloved in the comb. And it is real. There is an exchange with her beloved and the level of her heart through the medium of a one and half Rupee comb.
So if we understand hoe everything ois property of God Krishna describes that
sarva loka maheshwaram that He is the proprietor of everything that exists.
Aham sarvasya prabhavo … I am the source of spiritual world and I am source of all material world. Everything emanates from me. Everything that exists spiritual world and material are emanating from Krishna. They are Krishna. In the sense that they are energy. There is no difference between the energy and the energetic source, the shakti and the shakti maan. At the same time there is a difference. This is the philosophy that Sri CM so perfectly expounded, Achintya bheda abheda tattva. That simultaneously everything is one with God and different with God. When we see the sunshine we feel the sun. theose who worship the Sun God, they want the rays of Sun because it is the rays of the sun that is nourishing them. It is the rays of the sun that is giving rain. It is giving light. It is given life. Nothing exists without the rays of the sun. The crops are growing the earth is stable the evaporation of water the downpours of rain, its all by the mercy of the sun. and the mercy of the sun is manifesting through the rays. But at the same time the rain is the product. That rays is the emanation the sun os source sunshine is never the sun. it is always the subordinate. it is always emanation.
“Purnam ada purnam idam….”
That the supreme absolute truth is perfect & complete. The all emanations of the absolute is perfect and complete, If we see it in relation with Krishna. This is reality. This is not imagination. To see everything separate from Krishna is ignorance because nothing is separate from Krishna except our consciousness. So therefore a devotee whatever he sees he sees it in relation with his beloved.
Srila Prabhupad quotes from BG:

Very simple process by which we can practically understand Krishna, see Krishna and feel Krishna in every situation in life. Krishna says I am taste of water. Water is the basis of all liquids. Srila Prabhupada explains that essence of even wine is water. He said that if a person is drunkard just tell him to meditate that the taste of your wine is Krishna and he gradually becomes Krishna conscious. Now we are not recommending that you should drink wine to become Krishna Conscious. But if someone is in that mood then to somehow elevate that we give them this help. In fact Krishna Chandra Pr himself told me about one personality he knows who went to cocktail parties and put tulasi leaves in the cocktail. Yes who carries a very very silver box, very nice in which he keeps fresh tulasi leaves that he picks from his home. Before he takes his drinks he places it in beer in whiskyi n liquor. Now certainly that’s offensive to Tulasi. Tulasi, she wants to be on lotus feet of Krishna she doesn’t want to be on poisonous beverage. But at the same time atleast he is remembering God somehow or other. Krishna says I am the taste of water so before we drink anything the reality is that is to recognize that this taste is coming from Krishna. That’s how we remember Krishna. Now how we see Krishna is not simply a taste but because it is the energy coming form them and he is the personal supervisor of the energy therefore there is a connection. I am the light of the sun and moon. In the night we can remember Krishna by seeing the moon. In the day time, we can remember Krishna by the seeing the light of the sun. I am the sacred of the mantras I am the sound factually any sound you hear and any realized devotee when he sees the fans moving he sees Krishna. That’s sensitivity that perceptivity. Now how many of you have noticed the sound of the fan. But a devotee that spound Krishna is origin of all sound. Now the sound in the mode of ignorance, passion and goodness is transcendental sound it is the sound ultimately emanating from Krishna. He has the sound in ether. Ether has manifested from his universal form. The sound is the quality within Ether. It is Krishna. Even if u r hearing Srila Prabhupada, at juhu, there was so much construction going on. You know how obnoxious construction sound can be at night. Stone cutting and bashing things so much sound. It was 24 hrs a day like marathon and Prabhupada was right there in the heart of it. And one time he called his devotees when the sound wasn’t there. He said where the sound is. Why have they stopped the work? Prabhupada says it restlessly. He said I am not resting nicely because there is no sound. He said that the sound is the sound of these men doing something for Krishna building a temple for Krishna. This sound to my heart is sankeertan. He is hearing the congregation of sankeertan as the saws, hammers, and other equipment. They are all harmonizing together to give beautiful keertan for Prabhupada. Because it’s in glorification of Krishna. And Krishna says I am the of man. That means if anybody does we see the opulence of Krishna. Therefore a devotee even honors a Prime minister. Or a king. Prabhupada wrote this letter to the president of United States. Very respectful letter. Honoring him. Prabhupada wrote a letter to the prime minister of India calling her your Excellency. Prabhupada saying your Excellency, coming from Prabhupada it’s an high praise. He never called me your Excellency but he called the prime minister your Excellency but he called the prime minister. He explained, because whatever their consciousness may be Krishna has given them the power. Whether they are using this properly or not is another thing. But the power and facility are given by Krishna and we have to respect that. Wealthy persons , whether a person is atheistic or a nonsense or ass hole or what or they are pious and good , the fact that they have all that wealth , opulence and power, the fact is that its Krishna’s energy. Krishna has given it to them somehow or other. So we honour the principle of Krishna’s in that situation. Srila Prabhupada explains that a mayavadi sanyasi comes before you , you must bow down and if you don’t you fast . hare Krishna.
Srila Prabhupada says that if you hear from them you are doomed. Then why are we bowing down because their opulence of renunciation is one of Krishna’s opulence. And a Sanyasi whether he is correct or incorrect about his philosophical understanding and even if he is a bogus person; we bow down to the opulence of the renunciation of Krishna that he represents. That’s how a devotee sees Krishna in everything. Because Krishna is the source of everything. That is Krishna Consciousness. To always remember Krishna and to never forget Krishna. That is all we can do in every situation in our life. Simply to see everything’s relation to Krishna. But it is not that Krishna is everything in all respects. He is everything in the sense that everything is His energy that is emanating and controlled by him. But still Krishna remains separate. The polluted things in this world may be Krishna’s energy. But Krishna is the source and He is never polluted. Infact His energy is never polluted. The conception and creation is the one that creates pollution. Just like the sun is emanating rays and the sunrays are even in a 4 feet place. But the sun rays do not become contaminated. Even if the sun rays all day long are beating on a piece of stool, but its pretty disgusting, we see it, smell it and run away within seconds. Its not that we sit next to it like this. All day long. We are repulsive. Its almost impossible. But the sun, all day long. The sun not only present , its touching the stool. Thesun doesn’t become contaminated rather it purifies the stool. Where does the sun get the power to do that. From the sun planet. Similarly it is explained here by Srila Prabhupada that ether is never contaminated. Ether means space. It may be ether in toilet/latrine or ether ina rose garden . Ether is the same. It doesnot get affected whether it is in a clean place or dirty place. In the same way krishna’s energy is all pervading everywhere but it is always transcendental in its assets. The Mayavadi philosophers may try to convince the people of the world that we are one with god in all respects. But according to the acharyas and according to the proper understanding of the scriptures this is simply not possible. It is illusionary. Tat vam asi is the mahavakya. It is the most important of all mantras of Vedas. Tat means supreme. Asi means are. Vam means you. That means you are supreme. Now madhvacharya and great vaishnav saints who were perfect scholars of Sanskrit language the immense divine realization. They explain tat vam asi as you are all supreme. The example – air is in the pot and also air is in the sky but air in the pot is like a j when the pot is broken then the air just merges into the sky. But how can we compare the supreme absolute truth to something as a mundane thing as the sky. The unlimited Supreme all pervading how u can compare him to air in the pot. It is the mundane example that does not properly represent Brahman. Just as the wave in to ocean merges into the ocean similar he appears like a wave and merges into ocean. Even the idea of the air in the pot, molecular particles of the air within the pot do not all of a sudden merge into the air. It still remains the molecular particles, they just may be in the pot or out of the pot. But the whole air is consisted of unlimited molecular particles. Is it not? So similarly the wave is constituted of atomic & molecular particles and then it is little sector that makes the wave when the wave goes into the ocean it still remains a part of the ocean. Its not the wave becomes the ocean. Its illogical. The wave is always a part. It can never be anything but a part. It may be manifested as a wave or not a wave. But still that sector of water is part and parcel of the ocean. If you are the supreme, then the supreme is all powerful with all the opulence’s. Where is your opulence? Hare Krishna. Where is your all powerfulness? I often told a story when I was preaching in a college at universities. And one man came in the middle of the class and said I am God, I am the Supreme all powerful. I am omnipotent. Anyone can say anything but let’s be practical. I tried to explain philosophically, but he did not listen “I am god, I am Supreme”. So he raised his hand and said where the bathroom is. So the devotees locked the door and said you can’t get out. They locked the front door, back door and the bathroom door. He said where the bathroom is. And they said that you can’t go in the bathroom. Because you are supreme then why u need a bathroom for. So after sometime he was desperate. I don’t have to explain in detail all. We have had this experience sometime or the other in our life. He was desperate. He had the dignity of not doing it on the floor. He said “I need to use the bathroom”. I said If you are the controller of all controls .if you are controlling the spiritual and material worlds then why don’t you control your own bowels. Now that you are needing the bathroom. So he admitted he is not god with great enthusiasm. He flushed very nicely and came out. Because probably the highest realization of mukti ever he had experienced in his life.
Aham Brahmasmi. I am Brahma. Krishna says in Gita “Param Brahma.. “ Arjuna tells Krishna that you are the supreme Brahman. So we are all part and parcel of the SupremeLord. We are all constitutionally one in quality & differentiated in quantity.
Lord Shiva is so nicely presenting the conclusions of Vaishnava philosophy. Things can only be understood when we have a connection to those who love God. Krishna tells Arjuna that you can understand this message because you are my devotee. You are my friend.
“Bhaktya tvanam..”

It’s only by unalloyed devotion that I can be understood as I can. Therefore preliminary to this verse Lord Shiva is praying to Lord Krishna and preaching the Prithrathus how to pray? Praying to the association of pure devotees. Those who accept the Lord as Supreme person. And thus make their life and soul the pleasure of the Supreme Lord. In association of such person,, one can understand . the charya explain that when you come in contact with the real acharya then you can understand what is what. Otherwise you have this very deep rooted habit of mental speculation. You must give up the habit of mental speculation.
“ tad vidhi “
Inquire submissively from a proper guru and render service.
“Evam praptir..”
This knowledge is coming in disciplic succession. Who is a guru? One who loves Krishna. One who is speaking the words of those who love Krishna on the basis of the scriptures. Lord Shiva is the founder of the one of 4 great vaishnav sampradayas. And all of these 4 vaishnava sampradayas are very much one in that they accept that Supreme absolute truth is a person and that every living being is a eternal servant of Krishna. And only through bhakti, through devotion that one can invoke the original quality. That is the conclusion of Sri Devi (Lakshmi). Now there are so many philosophers, so many scholars and pundits but do any of them claim to have the same understanding or conclusion of the truth as Lakshmi. There is the Kumar Sampradaya – 4 Kumaras reading Bhagavatam. They were born of Brahma’s mind. When Brahma wanted them to assist him in creation of the universe. They refused. They were brahmacharis. They said we will not marry and we will not enjoy any of the sensual pleasures of this world. We want to meditate on Brahman. They realized from the very beginning that when they came in contact of the beautiful form of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, when they smelled the aroma of the tulasi leaves on his feet, they fell in love with Him and accepted the path of pure devotion. Sanat kumar samhita, one of the great scriptures followed by great Nimbaraka acharya descendents, Kumar Sampradaya. Then there is Brahma Sampradya who is greater devotee than Lord Brahma. At the very beginning of creation the Lord initiated Brahma with Gayatri mantra. At the very beginning of creation, Lord revealed o Brahma the spiritual world. He is the father of every living entity, the primeval being of this universe. Then there is Lord Shiva who is the founder of Rudra Sampradaya. Vallabhacharya is one of his descendents in parampara. And what does he teach? Sri Krsna saranam mam. Not brahma satyam jagan mithya”. Krishna is the only shelter. Surrender to Sri Krishna. Krishna is the Supreme absolute truth. The cause of all causes. The Supreme lord has inconceivable potencies beyond our intelligence and beyond our imagination. And we have seen it historically this personal form of God personality of Godhead cannot be compared to us. Let us take Vamana dev. He appeared as a dwarf and within moments he grew to such a size that two of his steps he covered the entire universe. So you do that. Your guru claims to be God. You do that. Cover the whole universe in two steps. Hare Krishna. The lords form is unlimited and He did it without any strain. If He wanted to He could have become billion times bigger than that. He did it, virat rupa. the Supreme Personality of Godhead appeared to Arjuna as Virat Rupa. This is His personality manifesting various attributes.
Why the acharya explain he showed that virat rupa to Arjuna is for many reasons. One principal reason is that if anyone claims to be God you ask them to show the Virat Rupa. Give me the eyes to see your Virat Rupa. Can I do it. Well you receive rupa. Yes. We are getting old. Instead of getting grave we start getting sick. Even if somebody attacks somebody and hide. Hare Krishna. Show me your Virat Rupa. Krishna didn’t run away and hide. He ran away from Kaliyavana. Yes. He ran away from Jarasandha. But he didn’t run away because he was Ranchor. He ran away to show some incredible glorious pastime. Krishna and Balarama ran away from Jarasandha and climbed a mountain and then He jumped from the mountain which was 88 miles. Can you do that? When Krishna showed his virat rupa to Arjuna, the power of time. Even Arjuna, he was the most mighty fearless warrior and he was afraid. Krishna I cannot tolerate seeing this form which is dazzling as millions of suns. That’s how the Lords form can manifest externally. He can grow into such immense proportions that will sweep the world. And at the same time when Krishna was just a small child in Gokul, Mahavan, he showed yashoda mai. She was holding Krishna in her arms and her parental affection so overwhelming that manifest in the form of milk poring from her breasts. So she went to open Krishna’s mouth to feed him and she looked inside the mouth and she saw the universal creation in his mouth. She saw all the planets the demigods all the mountains, the ocean, rivers, all living beings in his mouth and his mouth didn’t grow. Its not that all of a sudden it’s a gigantic overwhelming mouth. The mouth was only few inches in diameter and in which she saw all tiny space . is that conceivable? Can we grasp it with our intelligence? Can we mathematically dust this reality? Geometrically his mouth is this big, the universal creation we cannot even measure. How can something with billion and billions of miles can be inside the mouth of only about 4 inches. That’s Krishna. Achintya Shakti. Inconceivable. This is Krishna’s form. So when we understand the inconceivable nature of Krishna’s form then we can understand that how that form is the source of everything. That is why he revealed such a glorious pastime to show his supreme personality. Therefore its not difficult to have faith. If we hear with a submissive heart from the proper sources naturally our faith develops. When we hear from the pages of SB from Lord Shiva himself, his realization and his prayers to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, by his mercy we will get faith. And with the power of that faith we can cross all obstacles and enter into the eternal loving service of God.
Thank you very much.

Is there any question?
Yes. Mahaprabhu. We have been long awaiting a questions coming from you.

Q: when Kunti Maharani was praying to the Lord to kindly shiver my attachment with my family member . vaishnava meeting. We have a real problem. And the question is connected 50% of the senior counsels in the counselor system here which we are following here. Now Kunti Mahrani is asking to kindly shiver our attachment with our family members and there was one other incident which I am not able to collect now. So if we are , you are asking us that when we are of senior age we should try to make preparation for practically get ready for death. i.e after 50-60 years. We get so much involved because the material attachment is so much with family people, by which when we love them we develop attach to them. So how to detach from them when we are going towards the elderly age. How we can keep ourselves ready to that situation. I am not able to put correctly today as? I was not ready. Somehow or other you understand what I am asking.

A : very clear Question Thank you. Detachment in its highest sense is the result of attachment. We as vaishnavas simultaneously cultivate detachment from our selfish egoistic interest and attachment to the service of the Lord. The scientific method

Yes we have attachments. But we develop a Krishna centered family where we do not relate with one another in sense gratification but we relate to one another with the service of God. We cultivate the worship of the deity. We chant, we hear SB, Holy Scriptures. We cultivate the service to Vaishnava and sadhus. This is the focus of our family. And even when we work for our occupation We are not simply attached to the fruits of our action for our own selfish purposes. We are working to offer our fruits in the service of God. So we actually live properly according to the principles of gruhasta ashrama with Krishna in the center offering fruits in the service of Krishna taking care of the body mind soul of the children, taking care of the body mind soul of the husband or the wife, and by the time we reach 50 years or so we become purified through the whole process of Gruhastha ashrama. And ofcourse from what I have heard erratically, there are many sufferings in gruhastha ashrama. There are many relationships, anxiety, hurdles to overcome, man & wife living together without divorse, it can’t be easy. Just all the adjustment required is an austerity to maintain your vows especially with Krishna in the center. And then a materialistic person maintaining vows for the sake of morality. Devotes are maintaining the vows as an offering their love to Krishna. I vow to vow Krishna that we are going to be together, we are never going to divorce. It’s an offering to you Krishna. There is no question.
I am willing to tolerate for your service, to remain true to my word to you. So ,all the excitement and all anxiety is done as a service to Krishna. We can have that sadhana if we are chanting, hearing Srimad Bhagavatam, Bhagavad-Gita. Our home is Krishna’s temple. Our wealth is for Krishna’s service. Our body and ability is for Krishna’s service. That’s what Gruhastha life means. When we have that conviction then all the troubles that come through the gruhastha life, all the troubles, anxieties, relationship problem, the frustrations, they actually purify us.
Hari bol. That’s what the anxieties and miseries are for to purify you. Now materialistic people, they go through the same kind of miseries, perhaps, but they are not getting purified. They are just suffering. We are doing it with Krishna in the center, with a proper understanding, with a proper idea, so all these troubles anxieties are purifying our heart. And by the time the children grow up and they are married and we get old and the wife doesn’t look the way she used to but neither do you and that’s natural. We become detached from all this. We become more exclusive indirect devotion to the lord. But still it is difficult to detach. But it’s possible to detach. It’s always going to be difficult. So the whole process of the pleasure and pain of grhastha life with Krishna in the center, the purpose is that after you come to a certain age, you can become detached from the sense gratification provided from all these things and you can surrender your heart to Krishna. That’s the science. It may not come naturally, but u have the strength to do it. Now vanaprastha in the modern context doesn’t simply mean abandoning, it means explicit devotion. In previous ages the husband and wife they would go out together into the forest, live near a tree bark and eat roots and herbs. Hare Krishna.
There was no sense gratification. They just did tapasya in the service of the lord together. Now that is not practical in today’s society. For 2 reasons. There is no forest practically around any more. And 2- we just cant do it. We just don’t have the stamina. So there is practical way. The path of bhakti. We can remain home. Make your house a holy place and your whole relation will become not on sense gratification, no more obligation to the material world. Towards the children. Preach together. Do your sadhana together. Serve the vaishanavas. That’s practical. No more need to accumulate and maintain. And we see in the scriptures and these are the men who we are taking examples from. They are eager to escape from their material luxuries. Maharaj Yudhisthir , Arjuna, Nakula, Sahadev, as soon as Parikshit Maharaj was old enough to take over the kingdom, they went to Himalayas. Didn’t bring anything with them. Not even a master card. No American express card. No credit card at all. They wanted to completely depend on Krishna. Now we may not be able to do that, but we can accept the spirit of their renunciation and apply it in a way that’s practical in our own lives. Does that answer your question.

Q : the young people are getting proper training but the old people who didn’t get the grhastha training?...hoe do you expect those people to become great vanaprastha all of a sudden because that is a big expectation. And most of us become a baby sitter afterwards.

A: you can the baby sitting pujari by being pujari propensity. Pujari is like a baby sitter. Day and night taking care of deities, feeding the deities, putting the deities to rest, waking the deities. Worship the Lord at home. Don’t tell those Propensities to Krishna. It is a matter of our sincerity. This is the power of Maya. She works within your heart to give you the misconception. That others could do it but I cannot. You can. With the grace of God, you can do it. You have to do it in a system that is systematic practical way. If you cannot do it all at once then take a few steps forward in that direction. That’s something that all of us can do. And always be conscious that as you are growing older death is coming nearer. And death is going to detach you from everything. If we can become detached before death takes us away, we go back to Krishna. It’s an incentive. Old age is a blessing not a curse. I have spoken to old people and their bodies are paining and so many medical problems and so many mental loss of faculties. People say old age is hell.
Janma mrutyu jara vyadhi is one of the 4 miseries. Birth is not so easy. Babies come out crying screaming. Old age is full of suffering, and deaf. These are realities of the world. They are unavoidable. But actually the old age is a blessing. Because the sufferings of the old age are very sobering. We realize that we are helpless. When we are young and powerful and strong, how much of a control we were in. All things are happening. When we start getting old. I know one very wealthy man getting old. He ate an apple and his tooth got stuck in the middle of the apple, means it came out. He took a bite and he didn’t have a tooth. He had to search through the apple to find his tooth. So what if can’t control to hold on to your own tooth, what to speak of your life. So what we can do when we are getting old is unless we can do it as well. But it is showing us frailty, its showing us pour helplessness. Yes death means a reality. So let me become serious. And according to our capacity we should start taking steps forward by deepening our attachment towards Krishna and detachment towards all those things that our unfavorable to Krishna’s service. Our main concentration is to attach ourselves to Krishna. And one of the means in doing that is disentangling ourselves from egoistic sinful activities. Materialistic activities. The fact is u detach from your family, its just matter of time. We cant hold on to it. But before that day comes like Draupadi, raise your arms and cry out the holy name.
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.
Srila Prabhupada ki Jay.

When Maharaj was in London, he insisted that gurudwara which was built in London which was built with 14 million pounds and swaminarayan temple he should go. And when we reached the temple, Maharaj showed respect to gurudwara by covering his head, he bowed down, he respected and the food that was served. It is unbelievable that he has the same respect that he has for Krishna . it is completely educative.
