We are reading today from Shrimad Bhagvatam canto 6 chapter 1 entitled with “ The history of the life of Ajamila “ text 1. In this very essential purport Shrila Prabhupada is explaining the nature of Maharaj Parikshit heart. Parikshit Maharaj was a vaishnav, from the time in his womb of his mother he was a self realized soul, when Ashwathama put his life in danger his mother cried out for Krishna to save, Krishna never neglects His sinceire pride of compassion of His devotee, he had the darshan of Lord Krishna in his womb of his mother, he witnessed Krishna restore his very life, from his very birth he was naturally inclined towards loving Krishna through devotional service, we read how he worshiped deties his serve them with his life and soul and his family was a perfect environment his grandfather Arjuna his grand uncle Yudhisthir Maharaj, Bhima, Nakul Sahadev such glorious personalities, Parikshit Maharaj was sinless his whole life, by the power of Yoga maya he made one single mistake by Krishna arrangement he was overcome with thirst and placed a dead serpent on the shoulder of Shoumik Rishi

but how he regraded how he toned for that offense in the core of his heart otherwise Parikshit Maharaj was simply ocean of kindness he traveled the whole world on his chariot just looking to protect the innocent from the effects of Kali, the innocent cow and bow, he was the emperor of the world, where is such a politician to be found? The emperor of the world personally picked up his sward in raft of compassion to protect an innocent cow and bow from the mighty hands of Kali personified. When Parikshit Maharaj was supposed to die he welcomed the curse and Krishna's mercy he had no fear, he had no anger, an ordinary devotee would think I have given my life to serve Krishna from my birth and for simple mistake to be cursed to die in seven days why is Krishna doing this to me? That though did not even crossed his consciousness he accepted this is Krishna's mercy upon me this body is going to die sooner or later my purpose is to become Krishna consciousness to surrender everything to Krishna that comes in the association of the devotees such an opportunity to renounce everything an observe my mind in hearing and chanting Krishna's glories. He went to the bank of Ganga with a vow to fast till death he was such a great personality such a pure hearted soul that the greatest sages and rishis in the universe all gathered to be with him to give him their support Ved Vhyas, Narada muni , Vishwamitra muni Vashista muni they were there, ultimately they all accepted sukadev goswami to speak Shrimad Bhagwatam. So Prabhupada describes to us that Parikshit Maharaj there was absolutely no danger of his going to hell 100% guarantee he was going back to godhead his uncles how dear his family was to Krishna and Brihat Bhagwatamrita Sanatan goswami explains how Hanumanji, Hanumanji was thinking that u think I have devotion the Pandavas they are really devotees they are the personal friends of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna would sometime touch the feet of Maharaj Yudhisthir and His relationship with Arjuna Krishna excepted the role of ratha sarathi Arjunas caratior humble servent , he is is the perpect personification who has perfected his by becoming the friend of Krishna, they would joke together, they would lay down together they had so many wonderful experiences together intimate friendship so much friendly when Arjuna wanted to marry Krishna's own sister Subhadra Balaram did not like this proposal but Krishna made so many nice arrangement to marry His own sister to Arjuna such a loving relationship they had. We read in Shrimad Bhagwatam 7th canto that anyone surrenders their life to the Supreme Personality of Godhead so many generations past and future they are all liberated just by that vaishnav devotion so certainly any ancestors past or future of Arjuna was definitely going to be liberated. Parikshit Maharaj had just before this verse heard from Sukadev goswami descriptions of the planets of hell very serious discussion we should take it seriously and is not just mythology this is the reality of Karma, these hellish planets are designed to create so much suffering unbelievable just like in the world human beings they create facilities for pleasure they create facilities for suffering but the yama dutas the yamaraj they are really expert, they have supernatural powers I have told you before one of my godbrothers, he left Krishna consciousness completely his name was mahamantra das not the one you know whose is now Madhav Maharaj, Prabhupada gave several devotees the name Mahamantra das but this particular devotee he just fell into so many sinfull activities and one time he was walking down the streets several years after he looked and devotee gave him Shrimad Bhagwatam and he felt very embarrassed he had not seen devotees sinces years it happen to be 5th canto part 2 so he just decided I am going to see what Prabhupada is speaking these days and he read the discription of the hellish planets and he understood that he was performing almost every one of the acts that send you to these hells so he came back to new Vrindavan and surrendered its serious. So Parikshit Maharaj himself when he was hearing the discriptions of the hellish planets there was no danger for him, he was going back to godhead , he was sitting at the lotus feet of Sukadev goswami and all these sages hearing the glories of the Lord thats how he was he want to die but because he is concerned with those who are still trying to find happiness in this world out of compassion his heart is breaking he knows even the pious people in this world under various circumstances can become impious and go to the hellish regions. It is the fact, the laws of Karma are so intricately complex and due to association we can become so degraded. Ajamila he had incredibly good Karma he was born in the family of great Brahmans by his good karma his wife was very pure hearted chased faithful brahmani his parents engage him in the worship of the Supreme Lord from his childhood, he had excellent karma but the temptation of maya's power are so great that just by associating through his eyes with that prostitute with that low class man who was enjoying with it he became corrupted so much that he became sinful and he was destined to go to hells, we read about 5th canto but by the mercy of the Lord he called the name of Narayan and according to his karmic conditions the yamadutas came but by the mercy of the holy name the Vishnu dutas rescued him. So there are many such stories, Shrila Prabhupada explains that sometimes due to good karma a person is given much wealth much opulences of all source beautiful body riches good birth strength health these are product of good karma but look at the people in the world who has so much money who are beautiful in their bodily features so many sinful activities, often times when u have all of those things you have more facilities to engage in abominable acts so what is dangerous so Parikshit Maharaj is looking at the preview of the human society that everyone in human society sooner or later if they are not taking to the path of liberation they may be sent to this hellish regions and this broke his heart with compassion . Devotee is para dukha dukhi his suffering is the suffering of others thus in this chapter Parikshit Maharaj is enquireng from Sukadev goswami on the behalf of all living being in the world about how to be free from the dangers of entering into the suffering of hell. Shrila Prabhupada describes in his purport this is actually the definition of a vaishnava, a vaishnav is para dukha dukhi, a vaishnav is one who actually is concern with the spiritual welfare of other living being , who feels great pains seeing the other people suffering due to the varieties of reactions to ignorance, ignorance of our constitutional positions of eternal servitor of Lord Krishna. Parikshit Maharaj wanted to hear from Sukadev goswami how a person can be liberated even if a person engages in the pravriti marg of atoning for the sins that one preforms, Parikshit Maharaj frustrated by the thought of that he gave the analogy of an elephant, an elephant goes to bath but due to his foolishness comes out and roles again in the dust for those who have analyze the behavior of an elephant its exactly like that, I used to personally watch elephants you remember in New Vrindavan there was elephant they bring this elephant into the water and that elephant would scrub its self with the trunk just so clean he would just come out sparkling clean and within seconds he would just pick up dirt with its trunk and spray it all over its body so it was more dirty than before now what are elephant famous for? There are famous for having good memory yes! Elephants are known for having memory in the material sense a good memorier compare to an elephant, but this is material memory even if you atone to your sins Parikshit Maharaj explain if the inclination that seed of desire for sense gratification is still in the heart then it is just the matter of time till once it impels you to engage in sinful activities. Arjuna asked Krishna this question in Bhagwat Gita why I why a person who actually knows why he is impel to engage in sinful activities again and again Krishna explains because of seed of karma of material desires of lust greed is still there so devotional services is the process of burning that seed of material desires. Actually Shrila Prabhupada explains when you burnt seed even if you plant them they will not grow, the holy name of Krishna was explained by Caitanya Mahaprabhu to be the most important of the nine process of the devotional services. Sarvabhom Battacarya from his mayavad immpersonalism was converted to become a pure vaishnav and one day he ask Lord Caitanya of the nine process which is most important Lord Caitanya immediately said the chanting of the holy names its is the yuga dharma. So Sukadev goswami is describing the beautiful story of ajamila to show the power of bhakti the chanting of Krishna's is all merciful all purifying names and Parikshit Maharaj he wanted this narration for our sake this is vaishnav similarly Pralhad Maharaj Shrila Prabhupada explains in purport that Pralhad Maharaj was so astonished by seeing the entities in the conditional states do not except the path of liberation instead they choose to suffer hellish conditions if Pralhad Maharaj would have just kept his thought to himself he would have became the king of the universe he was the favorite son of hiranyakashipu but he was so compassion even to the person who hatted him and wanted to kill him and Pralhad Maharaj was offered any benidiction he didn't ask anything for himself he ask to his father to be liberated and then don't even want to go back to the spiritual world I want to stay in this world as long as anybody is suffering due to the material conception of life let me be hear to help them that is love, that is why the anger of Narashima dev could not be pacified by even the greatest of the devatas but because of little Pralhad's love and compassion for the fallen soul's Ugra Narshima becames very peaceful his heart melted that same spirit of Pralhad Maharaj appeared within the association of Lord Caitanya as Vasudev dutt and Haridas Thakur, How dear they were to the Lord because of that sense of compassion to the fallen soul's we know the story he asked the lord for only one benediction he never asked Him for anything else he was so generous whatever he would get he would just give to others he kept nothing for himself nothing for his own maintenance, Lord Caitanya would personally request Shivananda sen to oversee Vasudev dutt finances so that he would survive because he would just gave everything away he kept nothing for himself he was only concerned with others he said my Lord you are the supreme you are independent and you can do anything you so desire so I have one request and I know you can fulfill my request you have that power my heart breaks when I see the pitiable conditions of condition soul's suffering due to trying to enjoy separate from You, so many hellish miseries in this material world in ignorance people are be raft of common knowledge I cannot tolerate seeing them suffering therefore my Lord please grant me this one boon let all living entities living in this world attain the perfection of liberation and if there has to be some place for all of their sinful karma to go place it on top of my head I would suffer hellish condition perpetually but everyone else go back to your abode when he said this Lord Caitanya who is the paramathama in his heart understood he was serious sometime we speak as if we are very compassionate elevated devotees with our mouth but in our heart we know that these people dont know what I am thinking so I can speak very nicely but Lord Caitanya is paramathama he knew it was the inner most desire within the core of his heart therefore Lord Caitanya began to uncontrollably cry, he couldn't even speak his voice was faltering the supreme personality of godhead to be in such a condition where His limbs were trembling His voice was faltering speechless and tears flowing from His eyes this is how Vasudev dutt compassion affect the lord's heart, Lord Caitanya told him speaking this way you are breaking my heart and from that day Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu on many occasions he would proclaimed to all vaishnavs and to the world all time to come that I am simply Vasudev dutt's man I am subordinate to him if he wants to sell me I am sold I am simply Vasudev dutt's man, I am his property I have given him ownership of my existence, he conquered the lord by this love to this conditioned suffering soul's. Lord Caitanya so overwelmed by Vasudev dutt's compassion that he promised vasudev dutt I will liberate everyone in this universe but you do not have to go to hell no need I cannont tolerate seeing you suffer, it is no problem to Krishna to liberate the universe. That is the spirit of Pralhad, Lord Caitanya Himself said you are Pralhad Maharaj and Haridas Thakur also carried that spirit of Prahlad, such a compassionate loving person, there was that venomous snake in his cave he did even know what was there he was so absorbed in harinam if you think that you are absorbed in Harinam think about Haridas Thakur any guest that came to his cave just start choking and noxious and dizzy and headache because the whole cave was permiatted with the poisonousness vapors from the breath of a highly venomous serpent what to speak of the dangers bitting they could not even breath and Haridas Thakur when they approched him he didn't even notice that anyone had came in the cave that is how he was absorbed in chanting the Harinam he was transcendental to this world completely and out of love for the snake he said I would leave this place don't harm this snake and as soon as he said that the snake came out and left for ever because even a venomous snakes heart melted by Haridas Thakur's love and when in the same place in the Phuliagram that take place when he was ask to stop preaching this loud chanting he told the kazi and the governor that I cannot stop preaching we all remember Dwarkadhish Pr's performance dramatic performance Haridas Thakur incarnated in this devotee on that night also ShymKumar, you can cut my body but you never get me to spot preaching the glories of the holy name, he was liberated he didn't need to do that but he could not tolerate seeing the suffering of others so he voluntarily accepted being beaten brutally in 22 market places and Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu was so overwelmed with the affection for this compassionate soul that He personally accepted the beatings on His own body to protect him. Haridas Thakur was such a compassionate person who lived for the welfare of others that when he passed from the world Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu weeping in seperation lifted his body and danced with him and proclaimed for all eternity that the crown jewel of the universe has left us Shrila Haridas Thakur. Jagai and Madhai who would want to preached to them Lord Nityananda why did Lord Nityananda Pr preached to jagai and madhai? This is an important question as Shymanand Pr was speaking in beautiful class yesterday, Nityananda Pr never preached for 32 years, He left home at the age of 12 with that sannyasi He traveled for about 20 years from Vrindavan he was just waiting for His beloved Lord to begin the Harinam sankirtan because really who was any of us to preach to any one what is our right to take such a position to teach someone else about their real welfare, the only right we have is the power of the disciplic succession empowering us we should never ever think that I am a good preacher, Prabhupada didn't think in that way! Prabhupada prayed to be a pupet controled by the strings of Guru and Krishna's mercy let me dance as you make me dance he was surrendered Prabhupada said how will this people understand your message how will they understand my words only if you empowered me, that is a preacher we cannot change persons heart by our scholarship by our charisma by our our beautiful features or by any other means, real preacher means away conning the real inclination to love K in persons soul to awaken the soul if we repeat the words of the great soul's if we let the great soul's speak through us instruments of their mercy then we can actually succeed in the purpose of preaching. Talk to Haridas he considered himself most fallen the most sinful he didn't see any good quality in himself but yet how boldly he preached the glories of the holy name and his preaching partner Nityananda Pr, Balaram Himself original spiritual master of all universes of all creations of the spiritual world but he didn't preached until he received order from Lord Caitanya in Navadeep. One day Lord Caitanya told Nityananda Pr and Haridas Thakur that you go everywhere and give this message to chant the names of Krishna do not see who is fit or unfit give everyone the holy name so Nityananda Pr he was waiting sitting in Vrindavan traveling to all the holy places just waiting for that order to come on His head, His life is sold simply to preach Lord Caitanya and He knew that Lord Caitanya will be pleased if jaigai and madhai become pure vaishnavas. He preached to them because he understood Lord Caitanya's compassion to everyone not only did He want jaigai and madhai to become pure vaishnavas but he wanted the whole world to see the power of Lord Caitanya's compassion. Our beloved Shrila Prabhupada he really understood the essence of Lord Caitanya's mission he really knew the heart of Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu, for Lord Caitanya's own personal purposes he wanted to experiences the happiness of the love of Shrimati Radharani supreme devotion but why in this material world he is doing that in the spiritual world, Krishna wanted to experiences Radharani's love which was a mystery even to Himself, what is it about me that gives her such ecstasy that I cannot even understand, what is the nature of the happiness that She feels when She sees me? What is her love Krishna's all knowing He known everything past present and future, He knows all living beings but He cannot understand the entensity of Shri Radha's love so therefore He accepts this role of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Swarup Damodar Goswami explains that the absolute truth is one but eternally seperate as Radha and Krishna for ecstatic loving relation but they again have become one as Shri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, but why He performed this lila in the material world in the age of Kali? Out of compassion for all of us Krishna wanted Radharani's love that unlimited love that captures and conquers His heart, He wanted Her love to be distributed freely without any discrimination for the fallen suffering soul's of the material world. So Shrila Prabhupada

put tremendous emphases on preaching why? Because understood the heart of Lord Caitanya which means he perfectly understand the heart of Shrimati Radharani because that is the heart of Lord Caitanya. When Lord Caitanya was in Varanasi He compared Himself with a fruit vender, I am a gardner and I have gather so many fruits, the fruits of unalloyed love of God the Krishna prem and He was selling those fruits for the simple price of ones faith but in varanasi He found no byers nobody even wanted to give that much so Lord Caitanya said I would give them absolutely free the fruits of love of God but then He explained there was a problem He is such a generous gardener He had unlimited fruits He has hundreds and millions and trillions and no number to count His fruits, He said how alone can I distribute them so He is requesting His devotees that you all assist me in distributing these fruits of love of God to others then that's how we could best please the lord by preaching His message by our words by our example, ultimately our elevation to spiritual world is not attained by our memory or various subjects it is not attain by our very very strict sadana, its not attained by giving grand donations, its attained by the mercy of the Lord when the Lord is please with us then He promotes us to His personal abode, when Krishna brings us back to Goloka then He has to live with us to the rest of eternity, Do you think He just wants some egoestic who is doing 64 rounds a day come back to Him, do you think egoistic person who is performing ostarity who is not eating who is not sleeping, He will take back those people are dear to Him and who is most dear to Him those who are dear to His devotees so Shrila Prabhupada gave us a formula by which we can become so intimately dear to Lord Caitanya how by just assisting Him in giving Krishna to others making sacrifices to that purpose but we cannot give something that we are not connected to therefore we must follow our voes, no illisit sex no intoxication no gambling no meat eating, how can we give the holy names to others unless we are addicted to the holy name ourself so much attach the perfection of our is when we just cant stop chanting the holy name so we must cultivate deep attachment in chanting deep deep attachment in hearing Krishna's pastimes Krishna's messages Krishna's devotees and to the degree we become deeply attach to these principles we would be empowered to give the mercy of parampara to the suffering souls of this world that is our life that is our purpose that is what will make us dear to Guru and Krishna and Shrila Prabhupada has set the example personally and he would often say do as I am doing that was his order How can we do it Shrila Prabhupada is doing! By serving him by serving his desire by following his footsteps. Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu personally demonstrated in His life what please Him, this is the uniqueness of Lord Gaurangas incarnation. Ramchandar appeared and He told what pleases Him, Krishna told “ Sarva dharman parityajya” “ man mana mana mat bhakto “ He told us to surrender by always remembering Him becoming His devotee but Krishna come in a form of Lord Gauranga to show us by His example what exactly what make Him happy He takes the role of the servant of the servant of the servant of his own servants. Today's beautiful prayer by Sarvabhoma Bhattacharya is describing how Lord Caitanya eternally immersed in chanting His own holy names who else could do that if any of us do that then we will be in the company of the yamaduttas in those nether regions but Lord is constantly immersed in chanting of His holy names and constantly distributing His names to the world in the role of a devotee to teach us how much Lord Caitanya loved His devotees, how he served them, He would touched their feet and they had no power to stop Him Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu would washed their clothes of His devotees , he would carry heavy loads when He saw them walking and taking their (49:19) on His own shoulders to bring it to their homes, He cooked for His devotees, He served His devotees with His own hands prasad. In Jagannath Puri He loved to serve His devotees in Navadeep He was always immersed in serving devotees and in the south Indian tours specially their were no devotees except called krishnadas even he had some problems, He went to the place where there were no devotees of Radha and Krishna and He was giving love of God to everyone through chanting Harinam so Shri Caitanya Mahaprabhu taught us how we must become engrossed in chanting and hearing and how we must become very much committed to being compassionate instruments of His mercy to others. So when we examine Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu's lila very carefully and those of His devotees we can understand what is His heart and only then can we truly appreciate Shrila Prabhupada's glories devotional service. (50:49) ki jai! Haribol! This is the president of New Vrindavan, Prabhupada said he was expert at everything, Let us welcome to Shri Radha Gopinath temple. So the more we understand the heart of Shri Caitanya Mahaprabhu how He empowered His devotees why He love His devotees and how He performed by Himself the greater we can actually appreciate Shrila Prabhupada. He did not want us to just individually cultivate pure love of God because he knew that would not please the Lord as much as cultivating and distributing, helping Him distribute. Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu gave Shrila Prabhupada that stock of unlimited fruits of love of God and Prabhupada had so many of those fruits he is asking us Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu asked me to distribute these hundred and billions of those fruits but how can I distribute so all of you everyone who is my follower for generations let us all assist Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu in distributing these fruits of love of God. Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu He was married to the Supreme Godess of fortune and Navadeep, Vishnupriya She was about 14 years old She was the most beautiful women in the whole creation, She was the embodiment of faithfulness, chastity and exclusive singular love for Lord Caitanya, She lived only for His pleasure She was not even a single place of desire for anything but pleasing Her husband. Now there are many wonderful, chastfull ladies in the world but have you heard of anyone like Vishnupriya She lived exclusively for Him, sweet words sweet gestures what was the prasad that she cooked for the Lord and Sachi Mata she is Yashoda what is her love there is no mother can Saci Mata, she breath her heart beat for one purpose to give pleasure to Nimai. Shrila Prabhupada explains that the demigods in the higher planets from Indra to Shiva to Brahma of all the demigods none of them could passively ever have such a happy family like as Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the happiness that He experienced in His family with His mother and wife that experience is unapproachable even in the highest planets of the material universe what to speak of this earth and He renounced it He left His wife and mother crying for the rest of their lives and He gave up all those pleasures, this is simply impossible nobody could ever do it. Brahmacharies are thinking that they are renounced but if Vishnupriya came to dear wife you would not survive how could you not serve her she is supreme godess of fortune who could resist her love and devotion but Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu renounced why? Compassion because what help give sinfull soul's of this world a better opportunity to receive His mercy, He could not tolerate seeing the suffering of others. When we hear about Vasudev Dutt how his heart was breaking and he was going to hell for ever for even those person he never met and never would met he just can conceive people suffering, where is that compassion coming from that is just infinite test mo part and parcel of Lord Caitanaya's compassion and the principle followers of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. The six goswamis how they were inspired to live for the welfare of others, are beloved Shri Prabhupada explains rupa and sanatan goswami, prime ministers of the entire kingdom of Bengal which was bigger than Bengal is today, they had so much money (57:00) they were mandala patis that means they were lords of entire circle of influence, to be called a mandala pati is such a exalted title of control of ownership of influence such riches and they were devotees they could easily just drop their wealth and lived nice grihasta life in pure unalloyed devotional service, Why did they go to Vrindavan only wearing copin living under tree on ground just begging madukari for the simplest food unpalatable to an ordinary person, why? (58:07) out of compassion for the fallen souls that's all, they wanted to set such an example that the world could understand the true value of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu's mercy. They renounced everything simply out of compassion for the fallen condition souls because they knew that would be pleases Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu most. Why did they write Brihat Bhagvatam, Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu and other such literatures, not for them selves. Some of their literatures they wrote for the highest qualities of pure vaishnavas and other literatures were written for the sake of fallen souls understanding what is Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu's mercy and how to achieve it. Why did they built temples ? Not for themselves, why write literatures not for themselves, Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu ordered them to do because Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu wanted the conditioned souls in the age of kali to achieve Goloka Vrindavan in one life that's why. So we should understand as we are approaching the holy day of Gaura Pornima, this spirit of compassion , it is foundational to the true servants of Lord Caitanya, to be compassionate to each other, to be compassionate in a unified effort for the suffering souls of this world. When Shrila Prabhupada saw fighting, politics, envy, materialistic competition in amongst devotees, it caused him great distress, how is it, why would a devotee feel distress? He is transcendental to modes of material nature, the impersonalist they want to be above all distress but the higher platform is to be distress out of mercy and compassion to others that is more pleasing to Krishna and it is more deeper form of ecstasy then Om shanti shanti because it is based on love, selfless love, there are so few devotees and there are so many billions of conditioned souls, there is over a billion conditioned souls in this small country of India alone.
