The Journey Home Book - By Radhanath Swami

At the age of only nineteen, Radhanath Swami left his home in America seeking adventure and spiritual knowledge. After trekking across Europe for months,  Radhanath Swami reached his long hoped for destination: India. After living there for many years as a sadhu or wandering monk, Radhanath Swami returned to America in order to share the sacred knowledge and wisdom he had learned from the many holy men and women he had met there. It was an extraordinary choice, given what Radhanath Swami had survived to get there: a journey filled with bizarre characters, mystical experiences, and dangerous adventures. The story is recounted in his recently published memoir The Journey Home - Autobiography of an American Swami. Reviewers have called Radhanath Swami's saga  "at once an engaging yarn, a love story, and the evocation of a transcendent paradise in all its savagery, solitude, and splendor.

Radhanath Swami emerged from his years of travel wanting to explain for others the beauty and rewards of a life devoted to God, and therein lay a dilemma. Radhanath Swami's many followers and friends describe him as completely selfless and consequently unwilling to take credit for his work and restless when a spotlight is focused on him. By choosing A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami (1896-1977), a Bengali Vaishnava Saint, as his guru (after declining offers of initiation from several tyagis or renunciants in the Himalayas), Radhanath Swami cast his fate to the wind, cut his matted locks, and entered back into the society.

RadhanathMaharaj.net gives us a complete collection of the teaching of Radhanath Swami. Teachings consists of Transcriptions of lectures delivered by Radhanath Swami at various places. This website is to inspire the followers of Radhanath Swami to practice the philosophy of Vaishanavism.

Initiation Lecture- Brahmacharis And Their Parents By Radhanath Swami

“Om apavitrah pavitro va
Sarvavastham gato’pi va
Yah smaret pundarikaksam
Sa bahyabhyantarah sucih
sri Vishnu sri Vishnu sri Vishnu”

In this prayer of invocation to the sacred ceremony of initiation, we meditated upon the goal of life and the process in which we attain that goal of life. One who remembers the beautiful Supreme Personality of Godhead, who has lotus eyes, even having pass through all various situations becomes both purified within and without. Love of god is dormant within the heart of every living being. The ecstasy of prema that everyone is seeking since time immemorial is our essential nature that never leaves us. But our consciousness due to forgetfulness, we live our true nature. But Krishna is all pure. In simply by remembering him we become purified, when our true spiritual nature is revived.

Srila Prabhupada explained it in very simply way that this chanting of Krishna’s holy names revives one’s original Krishna Consciousness. It is not something that we have to import within ourselves but rather Krishna Consciousness is what must be uncovered from within ourselves. “ceto-darpaëa-märjanaà bhava-mahä-dävägni-nirväpaëaà” when a mirror is covered with dust, we cannot see ourselves but always see is the dust. The mind is the mirror that is meant to be reflects the sachidananda quality of the atma or the soul. But being buried by multi layers of material desires and attachments by dust, we cannot see ourselves. We cannot recognize our relationship with god. We cannot recognize the spiritual relationship we have beyond selfish desires with any other living beings and it is that forgetfulness. That is the very root cause of all sufferings and it is awakening of the original Krishna Consciousness that is the only possibility of real happiness, not false dream illusory happiness which will come and go according to the ever changing experiences of material existences subject to birth, old age, disease, and death.

The soul is eternal and the happiness of the soul, the love, the compassion of the soul is eternal because the soul is the part of god. We are blissful because Krishna is blissful. Krishna is eternally blissful and we are eternally blissful. In Bhagavad-Gita Krishna tells the difference. Krishna never forgets but we have these tendencies to forget. Once we forget and come to this material existence, even the so called pleasures. Once we again connect with Krishna we realize that those pleasures were nothing but suffering. What to speak of the sufferings. Sometime Srila Prabhupada would say that there is nothing but sufferings in this material existence. We are thinking, how that could be! There are so many happy moments, so much pleasure. But we are seeing from the prospect that there is the starving man bereft of bhakti. So for us a little bit of pleasure appears like pleasure. But for a self realized soul, who is actually testing the ecstasy of loving devotional service to Krishna, even the greatest pleasures in this material world because they divert one’s attention away from Krishna. Even the greatest pleasures in this world because their bereft of that joy of prema. It is actually sin or suffering.

So Srila Prabhupada and our great acaryas they come to this world on Krishna’s behalf to rescue people from these sufferings of material happiness and distress and give the ever lasting unlimited happiness of unselfish loving devotional service to Krishna the all attractive. Everything about Krishna is all attractive. Some people Srila Prabhupada used to say that they imagine that I have seen Krishna. But if you see Krishna in truth even a moment you will be so intoxicated by that vision. You will never forget him. It is impossible and you won’t be hankering after temporary pleasures any more because “param drstva nivartate” you will actually experience the higher taste.

Krishna Consciousness, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu explain to Sri Sanatana Goswami begins with understanding one very simple and crucial principle “jivera svarupa haya krsnera nitya dasa” that we are eternally the servants of Krishna. We are meant for Krishna. When Krishna enjoys us we experience the greatest happiness. When we try to enjoy support from Krishna and put ourselves in a condition where we vulnerable to all the miseries of material existence. It is very simple but due to our conditioning, it is very difficult to honestly accept that Krishna is the controller, the proprietor and the enjoyer and I am meant for Krishna. When Krishna sees me in His happy with me that’s the perfection of life to give Krishna happiness. “samsiddhir hari tosanam”. But under the illusion of Maya’s powers we are trying to separately be enjoyers, controllers, or proprietors not knowing that the very thing were striving for is the same thing that is causing us so many complications and difficulties of life.

Initiation is making up from vow to strive for this goal of uninterrupted and unmotivated devotional service to the lord and accepting what is favorable for that purpose and leaving aside what is unfavorable for that.

Today is a very holiday is purnima (Full moon night) where Sri Balaramji performs his Rasa Lila with his own gopis at Rama Ghat on the bank of Yamuna. Balaramji is the original spiritual master. He is the Supreme Personality servitor of Godhead. He is Krishna Himself, who is only motivation is to give pleasure to Krishna. Krishna expands Himself as His older brother to facilitate the wonderful pastimes of love between Krishna and his devotees. The scriptures tell us how Balaram expands himself into the land of Vrindavana to Krishna’s jewels, house, bed, cloths, shoes and in every possible way Balaram is giving pleasing to Krishna and facilitating the loving relationships between Krishna and all other devotees. Sometimes Balaram takes the role of Krishna’s servant “dasyarasa” by fanning or massaging Krishna. Other times “sakyarasa” friend, freely playing with Krishna in the forest of Vrindavana with other gopas of herding the cows and calves. Other times Sri Balaramji as sakyarasa, he is very much coordinating, organizing and protecting all the other gopas loving pastimes with Krishna and being the older brother he also serves Krishna in vastalyarasa.

Krishna drove into the lake of Kaliya on a day when Balaram was not there because Balaram would not allow Him to do it. On behalf of Yasodamai and Nanda maharaja Balaram would sometimes discipline Krishna like a parent and protective watch over Krishna. For the purports of madhuryarasa, Balaram expands as Anangamajari’s Srimati Radharani’s younger sister to be one of the interracial and important confidential associates who facilitate the loving pastimes between Krishna and Gopis. So in every way Balaram in such a comprehensive full fledged spirit in serving Krishna and serving any living entity in the spiritual world by arranging and facilitating Krishna’s lila with them as Srimati Radharani of others.

On this night when Balaramji performs his rasalila with gopis, we should even understand this, simply for the pleasure of Krishna. Krishna Himself the supreme enjoyer, only Balaramji wants to be enjoyed. Therefore he is the original guru. He is not only teaching us by his profound examples but he is making all the facilities to bring everyone to Krishna. When he appeared in Sri Rama’s lila as Lakshmana. He was Rama’s servant in every way. He appeared a younger brother. He was taking orders from Rama. He never the enjoyer but always the servant. How he try to protect Sita and Rama? He would not sleep. He would guard them. He would build their houses for them. He would collect herbs and roots for them.

In this age of Kali Balaram appears as Nityananda Prabhu, the original guru whose life, soul, and everything was simply to bring everyone to Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. He wanted nothing for himself. He just wanted to give everyone to Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s message. Especially to induce anyone and everyone to chant the holy names, “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare”.

So Nityananda Prabhu is the original guru of the spiritual world for all living beings. In this material world lord Brahma is the first guru of the parampara, who have received knowledge through Krishna’s flute at the very beginning of the creation and Brahma himself, he became Haridas Thakur, taking the humblest position. Along with Nityananda Prabhu, is only purpose of life is only joy just inducing other people to come and enjoy Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s lila by giving them the holy name. He is Brahma himself. Not only to show an example to others but to express his love personally. He was willing to be beaten. He was willing to be humiliated in so many ways. All to bring other people back in to the loving pastime of the lord. So is not it interesting Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is two main preacher went door to door to everyone begging their hands and knees was the original guru of the spiritual world Nityananda Prabhu who is Balaram himself and the original guru of the this material world Haridas Thakur who is Brahma. So this is guru, in the mood of service to bring everyone else to Krishna for Krishna’s enjoyment because the guru knows this is Krishna’s greatest enjoyment.

The original guru of this universe Brahma, Haridas he would speak to Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu spoke to him. He said, “What will we do about all of these condition souls who are suffering due to forgetfulness of Krishna”. Haridas said, “When You came to chant the holy name everyone is getting delivered”. Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu said, “What about the animals? What about the nonmoving objects like the trees?” Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu here is revealing Krishna’s heart. Krishna is a person. Simultaneously He is enjoying the highest Lila’s of love in the spiritual world. When He comes to this world, He was weeping seeing condition souls, even the trees. What to speak of all class of human beings and other creatures. He was crying thinking, “How they are suffering”? Because they are forgetful of their real spiritual nature.

Another analogy we may use of how different people have different perspective of happiness. Let us say, you are a parent and your child becomes a drug addict, addicted to heroin and they are in a party completely stoned out intoxicated with heroin and in addiction and they are having a good time. They really are having a good time. They are dancing, singing, and they really think that they are happy. Now the other drug addicts in that party also thinking, “oh, he is living a good time”. But when the parents looked at them. The child would say, “No, mother I am having a very good time. I am very happy”. Will the parent see that happy and good time? The parent will see that my child is suffering. They try to tell the child. But the child says, “No, no. I am happy as anything and I do not want to eat anything”. They are suffering because the nature of that happiness is not real. The nature of that happiness causes pain.

So Nityananda Prabhu and Haridas, they were going to the rich and the poor, successful and the unsuccessful and they did not see any difference. They are all deluded in forgetfulness of their spiritual nature. They are all going to die and god knows what is going to happening in between. When they were getting people to chant the holy names and promise to chant the holy names. – these two great gurus Haridas and Nityananda Prabhu, when they approach Jagai and Madhai, who were most sinful and they really thought that they were really happiest people in all over the Navadvipa because everyone fear with them and that gave them happiness. They have the power and control even the government fears them. No body can stop them. No body dared to stop them. They had physical power, political power, and always intoxicated, eating whatever they wanted, having sex anytime they wanted and doing anything they wanted anytime and nothing could stop them. They thought that they were so happy. But Nityananda Prabhu and Haridas wept in compassion for them.

Ultimately these great gurus they risk everything endured a lot of pain themselves, even the humiliation running away. What to speak of being beaten in the head and bleeding in the public. All to try to be compassionate. In the end despite all of their sins the only thing Nityananda Prabhu and Haridas and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, He only showed mercy upon them because Nityananda Prabhu and Haridas showed mercy upon them, the original gurus. Otherwise Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu was going to burn them with His chakra. But because the guru tattava prayed for their deliverance, the lord was obliged. What was required? They took basically the same vows that all of you are taking today. To always chant the holy names. Your vow is only sixteen rounds. They vowed to always chant the holy names. That’s our aspiration. Srila Prabhupada said, “Sixteen rounds is the minimum”. We should be striving to always chant the holy names. They vowed to no longer engage in sinful activities. Primarily illicit sex, intoxication, gambling, and meet eating and they vowed to always be the servant of the servant of the servant of the vaisnavas. That was quite a dramatic initiation ceremony. But that’s how Nityananda Prabhu reconnected these fallen souls back to the loving service of Radha and Krishna, who appeared as Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. That is the very essence of what initiation is.

Today is also the day of appearance day of Shyamananda pandit, the disciple of Hridaychaitanya. Hridaychaitay was the very very dear associate of Gadadhara pandit. Under his sikshya guru Jiva Goswami in Vrindavana he was given a very simple service. Although he was such a powerful scholar from brahmana family. Shyamananda was given a service of sweeping the sevakunja area of Vrindavana. This was about almost five hundred years ago, when it was really a forest and the paths were very dusty. He was just beyond his hand and knees. He did not have broom with wooden hand so that he could stand up in a very proud way. He was in his hands and knees with a little sweeper. When your hands in knees, many of you have been in Vrindavana to see this. All the dusts is getting in your nose, eyes, mouth, years, and getting all over your body. But he did not stop. Practically all day long he just swept, almost menial possible service, one thing sweeping the temple of the lord, where it is not all that dusty. He was just sweeping the forest path ways of Vrindavana. He is such a highly placed scholarly person. But this is what Jiva Goswami ordered him to do to sweep. He just swept and swept month after month after month. But Krishna sees the intent and the sincerity because he had no ego. He was really genuinely a selfless humble servant.

Radharani is in the heart of every living being along with Krishna in her expansion for a devotee. Srimati Radharani is also the original guru. She wanted to bring Shyamananda to Krishna’s service and Lalita Sakshi is also is an original guru. Because she is the one who brings everyone to Radharani. So Srimati Radharani left her own anklet in the forest on the path way. As Shyamananda was sweeping, he saw it and collected it. Then Lalita Sakshi came and said, “Did you see, my friend she had disguised of course, she left some jewelry here. Did you find it? She lust it”. Shyamananda understood, what was exactly going on to some extent. He said, “Let me meet your sakshi and then I’ll return it”. Lalita Sakshi brought him to meet Srimati Radharani. Radharani took that anklet and pressed against its forehead made a special tilak then never came up and gave him the name Shyamananda, one who gives pleasure to Srimati Radharani. He attracted the supreme goddess of fortune, the giver of the highest love. Because he was rendering menial service just caring out the order of the spiritual master. This is bhakti.

Shyamananda’s very dear friend is Narottam Das Thakur. His eligibility for initiation for his guru Lokanath Goswami was it for months and months, he would wake up very early in the morning and clean the urine and stool of his guru without anybody know, even his guru. It is selfless. He did not want anything in return.

Today is also the appearance of Hanuman. His service attitude to his guru Sri Rama is imprinted within the heart of every devotee’s life. His everything was to remember Sri Rama 24 hours a day and how did he remember by giving pleasure to Sri Rama by serving the will of Sri Rama. Because after all Kamsa was remembering Krishna 24 hours a day and Ravana was remembering Rama 24 hours a day. Then ultimately they got liberated by doing so. But they are not the examples because you have to really be a great soul to hate god that intensely. But what was Hanuman’s remembrance of Rama. It was not idle remembrance. He remembered Him always in the mood, “How can I serve the Lord”? “How can I please the Lord”? “What can I do”? He was so dutiful. He was so loyal.

When he was young, he was struck down by Indra’s thunderbolt when he was going to eat the sun. When he was unconscious, vayu his father stopped the air of the universe from circulating. So all the devas and Brahma apolise and gave Hanumanji super natural powers. When he was a baby, so when he had all these super natural powers, he was quite mischievous. Because what can anyone do. Then the great sages with the blessings of Anjana, Kessariraj, his mother and father and the banner setting, they all gave him a blessing that he would forget his power unless somebody reminds him. One of the blessings that Hanuman got from Surya is to learn all the Vedic scriptures from him. Because surya give light. Knowledge is light. Ignorance is darkness. Who gives light better than surya? He gave the light of knowledge, the light of the Srimad Bhagavatam. Hanuman studied under him. And as Dakshina, surya said, “My expansion son Sugriva, please be faithful to him.

Now Hanuman could have been faithful to Bali and remained in the kingdom. But the instruction of his guru, he was willing to be exile and living in a little track of land trying to protect Sugriva. He was loyal due to his guru. This is service attitude. For Rama there was nothing impossible. When he met Rama and Lakshmana at Pampa Sarovara, they explained to him to meet Sugriva. He said, “Get on my back. I’ll take you”. So he put Rama and Lakshmana on his shoulders and he jumped in one jump to the top of the mountain. They made a vow to Sugriva to be faithful for Rama. Hanuman may have had great powers but the greatest of the Hanuman was in his surrendered, devotion and service. Of all of various banners who are meant to find Sita, Rama took Hanuman aside and gave him His ring and said, “I have confidence, you will be the one to find Sita”. Because he saw his heart, determination, devotion, loyalty, and his love. And what was impossible for everyone else was possible because of that love. Hanuman jumped across the ocean about eight hundred miles and there was so many temptations, and so many obstacles.

The golden mountain came and said, “Hanumanji please come and rest for sometime, you have been flying a long time. He was not flying. He just jumped. Monkeys do not fly. They just jump. But what a jump! Birds have wings. So that they keep themselves up. But Hanuman just one leap, he did not wing. The power of that one leap sent him in the air that eight hundred miles. So rest and take another leap”. Hanumanji offered respects and he touched the mountain hardly a second to honor the service that mountain gave. He said, “I do not have time. There is no time for me”. This is what he meant. There is no time for me. I am in the mission of my lord. Then Simhica and Surasa they tested him in so many ways that he could have gone back and nothing could stopped Hanuman. Then Lankini, she tried to stop him.

So it is a great example because we want to serve our guru and we want to serve Krishna. There are many many obstacles will come. But following the footsteps of Hanuman and never give up and if we never give up guru and Krishna can empower us to do most wonderful things. Then search and found Sita, gave her the ring, pacified her, knockdown the Ashok Groves, met Ravana face to face and told him the glories of Rama, got his tail on fire and burned out the city, and jumped back to Rama. When Rama heard about all that Hanuman had done, way beyond what Rama even asked him to do. He just asked him to give His message. Hanuman did that and he did so much more because he knew Rama’s heart.
Rama got up with such emotion and embraced Hanuman. He said, “I have nothing else to give you. I am here living in the forest. I have nothing. All I have to give you to repay is my embrace”.

In embracing Hanumanji, Rama gave Himself. Rama becomes servant of those who become His servant with pure and unmotivated love. Later on, how he was the main person to build the bridge. He could have flown, so that everyone else could go and Rama was not in the mood of flying. So even Rama and Lakshmana walked. So he built such beautiful nice bridge. Please understand it was not just really like the bridges that we see in Bombay. It was really a beautiful bridge. There were all rocks but Hanuman put all them in a fantastic way that it was really a fantastic bridge a hundred miles wide and eight hundred miles long and was really nice. Rama and Lakshmana walked across with Hanumanji and all the other many many soldiers. Every rock float, such a service attitude. Then during the war, he lifted mountains, jumped in the air hundreds and hundred of miles. He never expected any prestige, any material benefits, he just wanted to serve. This is bhakti. He is the emblem of bhakti.

Although Bali and Sugriva and so many of the other Banaras they were married men with wives. Hanuman was brahmacari like so many of you getting initiated our brahmacaries because he did not want to divert his attention for a moment from his full scale devotional service to Rama. It is not that he was repulsed by the woman or anything. He was just so enthusiastic to serve. He wanted to give his body, mind, words, life and everything only for Rama’s service and nothing else. Hanuman he declared that all of his power and all of his strength was by his constantly chanting of the holy names “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare”.

Shyamananda Goswami, as he was doing his wonderful seva at Sevakunja and the whole Rasalila sthan, he was constantly chanting the holy names. Nityananda Prabhu and Haridas constantly chanting and giving out the holy names of Krishna. So this is the essence of Krishna Consciousness. Developing a service attitude, living by this four moral principles like no illicit sex, no intoxication, no gambling, and no meat eating and really absorbing ourselves in hearing about Krishna and chanting Krishna’s names. It is so simple that the most common people can attain perfection then the greatest paramhamsas and the greatest scholars that ever live doing exactly the same thing, tasting the sweetness of the holy name of Krishna.

On this day of initiation we are committing ourselves to living a pure life to really sincerely and genuinely develop a service attitude, servant of the servant of the servant of the Lord. “gopé-bhartuù pada-kamalayor däsa-däsänudäsaù”. That means no prajalpa. That means no criticizing others. No politics. You are actually humble. You are not going to criticize others. If you are very advanced soul and you point out things to actually serve and help people to become better that is not criticism. But if you do not have that positive attitude to benefit people and you will raise people up instead of push people down, that is an aparadh. If you do it to a vaisnava, then it is a vaisnava aparadh. If you do it to anyone it is an aparadh. So this is what we expect of all of you to chant the holy names at hearing to these principles.

Interestingly Shyamanda Goswami, Narottam Das Thakur, and Srinivas Acarya, they all served. They all have different dikshya gurus. Gopal Bhatta Goswami, Hridaya Caitanya Prabhu, Lokanath Goswami they all had a common sikshya guru, Jiva Goswami but they were absolutely brothers. It was not my sikshya guru, my dikshya guru better than yours. It was not that Narottam Das Thakur would saying, “My dikshya guru Lokanatha Goswami knew Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu for longer than any of yours. He is senior”. It was not that Srinivas Acarya said, “My guru Gopalbhatta Goswami, he writes all these literatures. He is the most scholarly, most learned”. It was not like that. They loved each other and they honored each others gurus and they were brothers. They were really god brothers because Jiva Goswami and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu brought them together.

In ISKCON Srila Prabhupada is like our Jiva Goswami. He is the Founder Acarya. We may have different gurus but we are all serving under Srila Prabhupada. He is the representative of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu for this whole mission. To please Srila Prabhupada or to please to our guru, who is trying to please Srila Prabhupada, we should know that cooperation, respect, and lover for each other. You do not please your guru. I can tell you, you cannot please your guru. You cannot please Srila Prabhupada in a substantial way, unless you take these instructions to heart. No politics but simple heart. Cooperation, love in respect with each other as vaisnavas and work together for the common purpose. This is what we seriously expect for anyone taking initiation. If you coming up to take these vows, this is what vowing in your life to really really try to fulfill. It is not just a superficial thing. It is not just we get a name. We get little more prestige in the society and we feel that will be liberated. You do not get liberated and you do not get advancement by taking initiation. That we should know clearly. Taking initiation, we do not make any advancement. Getting a name we do not make any advancement. We make advancement when we follow the will of the spiritual master. When we follow not only the vows of initiation but the spirit of the vows. That where the advancement comes. So that should be taken very seriously. It is a joyful occasion but it is also a very serious occasion, very sober, and very blissful. Bhakti is like that. It can be extremely sober and extremely blissful simultaneously.

It is one of the most important days of your life; if you take it’s seriously. You do not think it is meaningless. All of you have come together with such tremendous recommendations of seeing vaisnavas to really dedicate your lives for this purpose. I am very grateful. I am just trying to be the servant of the servant of the servant of the Lord and you are all endeavoring to serve Srila Prabhupada so sincerely. I am very grateful and honor that I am allowed to assist you in that service by performing this service. But whoever we are the service attitude is the divine connection to Krishna, in whatever position.

There are many brahmacaries in so many different centers, who have dedicated their lives. So many of you had incredible extraordinary careers waiting for you, the door is open all yet to is work through prestige, money, and so many things. Most of you, you have forsaken that to live a simple life of renunciation to purify your hearts. We have engineers, who could have big paying powerful jobs and you are sweeping the temple floor, cutting vegetables, going out in preaching and whatever it may be assisting others, like beggars distributing books.

This is beautiful and perhaps the most pleasure feature of today’s initiation on this day of Hanuman Jayanti, Balaram’s Rasayatra, is there is about forty parents, mothers, fathers or both of brahmacaris. This is something that inconceivable today. Brahmacaries become devotees. Most of the time the parents really worried what are they doing? What craziness? What happens to them? What about their careers? We put so much of our money and so much of our lives to training them and sending them to good colleges. Now they become brahmacaries in Hare Krishnas. What about us the parents? Who is going to take care of us? In America they do not think about that. In India they think who is going to take care of us. So naturally parents are very disturbed. Because they are brahmacaries, they practice bhakti with such integrity, sensitivity to kept relationships with his parents. We have other brahmacaries help keep those relationships with another grihasthas.

I think the parents; they realized that there is nothing they can do about it. We might all try to understand, what they are doing and when they understood they really liked it. This is actually something very pure and real and they saw the good work their children were doing. Their sons are brahmacaries. Our children are really saddhus. It is not about just getting a little money for them. They are going to liberate us. They are going to liberate all my forefathers and foremothers and everyone else. They started practicing. Most of these parents for between three and five and six years have been chanting, following the bows and dedicating themselves to Srila Prabhupada’s mission and mission of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. There are 42 parents of brahmacharies are taking initiation today. We had others in Calcutta in other initiations. It is very pleasing to the heart to see this. Krishna Consciousness is really a culture. It is a community. It is a family or even renunciates. They have so much love and respect for their parents and parents develop such love and respect and appreciation for their children. It seems inconceivable, where your mother becomes your sister and your father becomes your brother but at the same time they still retain their unique position as your mother and father. Do not forget that brahmacaries. They may be your god brother and sister but they still your mother and father. They still deserve your highest honor and respect and love. It seems who these parents just open their hearts so graciously to take to this path of perfection even in such difficult decision to make. When your children decide to become saddhus. If Srila Prabhupada is here, I believe he would say, this is the greatness of India. This is the unique greatness of India. The parents could be so proud and so humble and so spiritually on the path of Dharma to accept the path of their sons. Or another initiation will be daughter as well to accept the path of their children because it is the path of Dharma. It is the path of choose.

Today it is a thrilling experience for myself and for all the brahmacaries and for all our congregation for everyone and please all of you, mothers and fathers. We are doing today is, your are setting such shining example to the whole world of how Srila Prabhupada’s society, Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s society really is just magnificent intimate family of respect and love for each other.

Thank you very meach.
